The Department of Radiology offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art diagnostic radiology and image-guided interventional services, at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and College of medicine and health Sciences; center for excellence in healthcare, biomedical research, and medical education. Radiology is a rapidly evolving field with a great potential for collaborative work across many medical specialties, which enables our staff to provide comprehensive educational experiences for students and residents that reach beyond the reporting room. The specialized diagnostic services include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Vascular & Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine (NM) and PET/CT, Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound (US), Mammography and Medical Physics (Calibration of Radiation Equipment, Research, etc.) as well as routine Radiographic Imaging.

Services

GENERAL RADIOLOGY

Includes general radiography and fluoroscopy.
Performing dedicated fluoroscopic examination of the upper and lower GI tract and urinary system.

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY

Performs the routine and specialized CT examinations such as CT Coronary angiography, CT peripheral angiography, CT perfusion of the brain and CT Colonography.

MAMMOGRAPHY

Provides individually tailored comprehensive evaluation for the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases.
Breast imaging modalities:
- full field digital mammography
- dedicated breast ultrasound
- stereotactic-guided biopsy
Ultrasound-guided interventional procedures
- ultrasound-guided biopsies
- hook wire localizations
- fine-needle aspiration cytology
- clip placements
Provides a “One-stop Breast Clinic” held once a week in collaboration with surgeons and pathologists.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Has state of the art including Single Photon Emission Tomography and Computerized Tomography 16-slices (SPECT/CT) and PET/CT.
Performs all nuclear medicine examinations and PET/CT examinations including cardiac and brain PET.
Radionuclide therapy includes radioiodine therapy and Yttrium 90 for chronic synovitis.

VASCULAR & INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY

State of the art Hybrid suite.
Interventional Oncology (including TACE and TARE)
Peripheral Vascular Disease Intervention
Trauma embolization and GIT embolization
Image Guided Drainage and biopsies
Transplant Interventions

ULTRASOUND

Routine abdominal and pelvis ultrasound examinations for adult and pediatric
Obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound
MSK ultrasound
Ultrasound Guided Interventional Procedures
Performs certain specialized Ultrasound and Doppler examinations which includes:
- Trans-cranial Doppler Imaging (TCDI)
- Shear Wave velocity
- Elasticity imaging of the liver

MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING

1.5 Tesla and 3 Tesla MRI Scanner
Full range of MRI examinations including specialized exams such as MRI breast, perfusion studies, contrast enhanced and non - contrast Angiography and cardiac MRI.
Pediatric examinations

MEDICAL PHYSICS

Radiation protection services to hospital and the College of Medicine.
Provides technical and consultancy support.
Well equipped with a wide range of measuring and calibration equipment for dealing with its main functions in medical and industrial uses of ionizing radiation.
