Program Overview

The Department of Islamic Sciences derives its objectives from the mission of the university, and from the principles of the mission of the College of Education which is based on the principles of the true religion. These goals are as follows:

1. Providing students with the necessary Islamic knowledge to form the Islamic personality that is capable of performing the civilized role assigned to them.
2. Linking students to the Holy Quran, recitation, intonation, memorization, understanding, and studying.
3. Establishing the Islamic values in students by their compliance with the ethics and ideals of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the pious predecessors from this nation.
4. Preparing qualified teachers for teaching Islamic Sciences efficiently and effectively in different stages of education in the light of contemporary educational trends.
5. Preparing specialists in higher Islamic studies to meet the need of the society for researchers, and the qualified in various branches of Islamic sciences.
6. To enable students from the comparative study of the jurisprudence of Islamic doctrines, with a focus on the study of the Ibadi jurisprudence, history, and cultural role.
7. Provide students with scientific research skills in Islamic sciences.
8. Spread awareness of the provisions of Islam and its modesty in society, throughout the presentation of lessons and lectures in mosques, educational institutions, and civil institutions.
9. Effective partnership development between the department and institutions related to Islamic sciences locally and internationally.
10. Encouraging scientific research, and contributing to the spreading of Omani heritage.

AdmissionÌýRequirements

• Applicants should have a Bachelor and a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies, Islamic Institutes and Islamic Science or related field, from Sultan Qaboos University or equivalent from a recognized university.
• A master cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 3.00 on a 4-point scale or equivalent in any other system and the Deanship of Postgraduate studies makes the assessment for equivalency acceptance
• A master cumulative GPA ranging between 2.75 and 2.99 on a 4-point scale or its equivalent, taking into account the applicant’s work experience (not less than 2 years following completion of an undergraduate degree) and any academic activities they are engaged in.
• A Resume that shows the candidate’s qualifications, research experience, work experience, research publications, skills, awards and honours received, and any other extracurricular activities.
• Two letters of reference from academics, to show competence in the discipline of interest and research capabilities.
• A research proposal that demonstrates the candidate’s background knowledge in the topic, the research methodology and proposed research plan.
• Applicant must submit a release letter or a study leave from employer, addressed to the dean of postgraduate studies at ag¶Ä²©. Un-employed applicant needs to submit a statement from The Ministry of Labour Ìýdocumenting the unemployment status of the applicant.

Instruction Language Arabic Before starting the program should:
Should submit an English Proficiency Test Certificate band (4.5) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (49) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT.

Should submit an English Proficiency Test Certificate that band (6.5) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (90) or higher in the International TOEFL - IBT.
